U.S. Census Bureau figures from 2012 showed that for the first time minorities made up a majority of babies born in the United States. By the year 2040, demographers predict the U.S will be “majority minority,” with racial and ethnic minorities making up the majority of the U.S. population.
We are also in the midst of other sweeping trends including the aging of the Baby Boom generation, continuing urbanization, growing economic inequality, and residential self-sorting of citizens by political and other affiliation.
At Creighton University, we developed The 2040 Initiative to provide a forum for addressing the challenging issues that arise when these demographic trends intersect with law and politics.
