Founder and Executive Director of Veterans Legal Support Network

Mick Wagoner teaches Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) and is the founder and Executive Director of Veterans Legal Support Network, a local nonprofit here in Omaha.  Raised in Grand Island, he is a 3rd generation Nebraska lawyer and graduated from Creighton Prep and the University of Texas before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1989. Initially assigned as a Motor Transport Officer, he deployed to Saudi Arabia in 1991 and participated in Desert Shield/Storm. He also deployed to Somalia in 1993 in support of Operation Restore Hope. He left active service in 1993 to attend Creighton University School of Law.

Following graduation and the bar he rejoined the Marines on active duty and was assigned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina where he worked in Legal Assistance, Civil Law and was the Senior Defense Counsel for 18 months. In 2000 Major Wagoner reported to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in Camp Pendleton, California and made two deployments. On the first deployment the MEU was the first conventional unit in Afghanistan in November 2001 and during the second deployment participated in the invasion and occupation of Iraq in 2003.

Following the MEU Major Wagoner attended the US Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School (TJAGLCS) in Charlottesville, Virginia where he earned an LLM in Military Law with a Specialty in International and Operational Law. He stayed at the school and taught in the International and Operational Law Department for three years. Following TJAGLCS LtCol Wagoner transferred to US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in Tampa, Florida as the chief of Operational Law. In 2010 he transferred to Iwakuni, Japan and retired from the Marine Corps there in 2013. He returned to Omaha and started VLSN in the summer of 2015 to assist veterans and their families working through the civil and criminal justice systems.

Mick has taught LOAC classes in South Korea, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kyrgyzstan as well as to numerous agencies throughout the United States Government.  He is married to the former Susan Ingram of Council Bluffs, Iowa and they have four wonderful daughters.
