The Hon. Charles L. Smith, JD ’70, a Missouri Valley, Iowa, native and former chief judge of Iowa’s Fourth Judicial District, is one of 19 judges – and the only American – to be named international judges of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers. Read the full story.

Don Montgomery, JD ’89 (shown) is the recipient of the 2017 Alumni Merit Award. The award will be presented to him by Creighton University’s president, the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, at the President’s Alumni Dinner on Sept. 15. He is a former member of the Creighton University National Alumni Board.

Stephanie Shearer, JD ’00, has been appointed to the Fourth District County bench (Douglas County). This was the vacancy created when the Hon. Susan Bazis, JD ’93, was appointed to the federal bench last year. Read more.

The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) has announced the investiture of 14 new immigration judges. One of them is Matthew Morrisey, JD ’04. Prior to becoming an immigration judge, Morrisey served for nine years as an assistant chief counsel for the Office of Chief Counsel, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security, in Omaha. The investiture ceremony took place on April 7 at EOIR headquarters in Falls Church, Va.
