Students in this program will learn how to analyze personal financial situations and evaluate client objectives, needs and values to develop a comprehensive financial plan using a six-step planning process.

The Personal Financial Planning Certificate consists of 18 graduate credit hours. The curriculum consists of six courses that cover the 72 Topic Areas of Learning specified by the CFP® Board of Standards, and can be taken entirely online.

If you decide you want to go on to pursue an MBA, credits earned in this program can be used toward an MBA with an emphasis in Personal Financial Planning.

The Personal Financial Planning certificate has been approved by the CFP® Board of Standards as satisfying the academic requirements needed to sit for the CFP® exam. These include:

Coursework for the Personal Financial Planning certificate is designed to provide a focused and in-depth study of the field of financial planning.

The coursework includes six classes for a total of 18 credit hours. Each course is eight weeks and is offered at least once per calendar year.

Credits earned can also be applied toward a Master of Business Administration.

Admissions Requirements

The requirements listed below apply to the Personal Financial Planning Certificate program only. If you choose to move on to the MBA program, you’ll need to complete additional requirements.
